there is no heat inside the house… to keep warm we wear long johns, boots and many sweaters. we sit on the couch inside sleeping bags, with a cat on our lap inside the sleeping bag as well. we boil water and pour it into glass jars which we carry around, pressed against our abdomens and stiff extremities, until the temperature equilibrates.

i ask gary what kind of banjo he plays… “thrash banjo.”
